Letter to my ego

Dear ego,

Go away

You take the joy

And create all pain

You fill space with pride

you claim to know

you hold onto each thought as truth-

let go

You’re the most compelling storyteller

If one doesn’t believe you, you make the story better

You fear death more than anything else

And when you die - you recreate yourself

You fill the present with past and future

You fill the heart and gut with mind

You’re the eternal guru, always enlightened

but really, what you are is frightened

Walk away, let go, and never return

your dirty tricks are not so hard to discern

you are never right, and you are never wrong

you are nothing but an illusion that's persistently strong
